Lu Pearl brings an inventive and tactile touch to her expansive works. Her work is inspired by the intricate textures and formations in nature, taking those textures and magnifying them onto the canvas.
Lu’s inspiration is driven by the tactile and emotional possibilities, particularly the relationship between metallics and light.
Lu describes her work as “not only how the piece transports emotion and experience, but also in how the textures solicit your feelings to want to reach out and touch and be part of the scene; be part of the experience. On completion I name each art piece by what I see while I’m creating it and how it makes me feel, but its not what I see and feel in the piece that’s ultimately important to me. It’s what it means to you and how it makes you feel - that is the most rewarding.”
Lu’s work resides in many collectors homes throughout the UK and USA.
Lu takes her inspiration from everywhere around her – from naturally occurring rock and crystal formations, to hazy landscapes, to amazing sky formations, to rustic panels of Texas, and even contours and forms suggested by natures more worldly events and features such as the Great Barrier Reef.
Once a concept has taken shape in her mind, she transfers her vision onto canvas or hardwood panel in bold and intricate swathes. She is fascinated by how her work can reveal itself differently to collectors from her own intentions and emotions. They can also marry, as one delighted client testified: “You captured one of my greatest passions, travel, in such a delightful way. This art piece is a work of love and a reflection of your incredible talent. I look forward to a lifetime of enjoyment and appreciating different nuances every time I look at it.”
Lu’s early experiments with shop-bought texture products fell short of providing the depth, movement and intensity she was looking for. Instead, she developed her own sculptural paste to transform the look and feel of her work.
Additionally, she can, and has, fashioned the paste to characterize wood in a palette also featuring metallic leaf and metallic acrylics, color acrylics, ink washes, and a variety of textured mediums.
